Hi everyone. I have a 31 fordor blindback. I would like some information on it if anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it. The body number is 167-8087 and the engine number is A4686988. Any info would be very helpful. Thanks Ken

Let's see now:

If the engine is the original engine that was put into the chassis of this car when it came down the assembly line and if the engine is not a restamp, then it was stamped at Dearborn on May 26, 1931 but it does not tell you when the car was built. To see if it is the original engine number, you will have to remove the body and view the stamping on the frame if still ledgable.

Next, does it have an assembly code? Go here to review just where you may find the assembly code on your body: http://www.plucks329s.org/pdf/studie...ND%20CODES.pdf

Your car has no indenteded firewall...this appeared in May 1931 so my gues yours would maybe be an early May 1931 or earlier right before the indented firewall came into the picture.

You can also purchase the MARC/MAFCA Restoration Guidelines and Judging Standards which will help you key ou the rest of the car to try to determine an aprox. build date.

Looks like it will be a nice restoration...just do not get discouraged!

The radiator shell and the running board splash apron lead me to think that this car is a 1930 not a 1931. Am I wrong??

Some of the early 31 Fordors did not have a slant windshield. I am not sure when the change over happened, so yes, it could be an early 31.

Here is an Aug 1930. As above rad shell 30? and I have 29 bumper I like it! Delux Blindback.Nice project!

Engine number and body have little meaning as you do not know if the engine is original to the chassis. Of for that matter, the body might not be original to the chassis.

First clues, but not conclusive, which frame does it have?
Does the cowl only engage to one of the 2/3 mount holes?
Are there 3 holes on the side of the frame in front of the rear running board brace? Or the #6 mount bracket?
That will tell you if the frame was made since the Vicky was introduced.
If it does not have the 3 holes and rear ward mounted 2/3 mount then you know the frame is not likely to be original to the engine. By May of 31 all the frames should be the type compatible with the slant window bodies.

Those the the best clues you can go by.

very interesting is the hole in the fender and the small pipe coming up from the front fender? Something mounted there or inspection hole for the tire.
Did all the front fenders have the seam inboard on 31's? I have a S/W.
nice project coming up.

Welcome to the club! Assuming the shell is correct and you have a 30, be careful when you go to work over the body. The whole car is made of wood and covered in metal. Either way you have a very nice car waiting to be loved and driven.

Does anyone know if enough of the body tag numbers have been collected to say when 8087 might have been made? Dennis Smith was doing some work on these tag numbers and may have collected enough to say about when body 8087 was made.

I was able to read the numbers on the chassis. It's A3686988.

That particular engine number was stamped on the engine that was dropped into the chassis on June 27, 1930.

So maybe a July 1930 assembly???

Review my frame data and compair it to your frame to try to get a more exact window of assembly.
