Default Barrett/Ford brake adjusting guide 1948

I purchased a Barrett Brake School, Brake Service Lesson Book on E-B%$ and thought I'd share what they taught about how to adjust and trouble shoot the Ford mechanical brake system. It's very interesting and differs some from what I have read form others. Enjoy Ford brothers!

If you right click on the images and save them to your computer, they should be saved to view or print out to full size.

I saved the images and the first one was 56kb and printed fine but all the rest were 6-7kb
and are all blurred when you try to print them.

If they were posted as PDF's they would print perfectly.

These are great! If you will scan them and save as a pdf document then they can be printed with full quality. Only the first image has enough image quality for printing.

I downloaded the images and then pasted them into an MS Word document. While not crystal clear like a pdf, they are clear enough to read ok. Thanks for posting them, great for a newbie.

Interesting! Does anybody reproduce those square-headed roller pins? Those look like a much better way to adjust the shoe height than bending the roller tracks.

Doug
Flathead Ted and his distributors sell them for the rear brakes. Not needed for the front as a different device eliminates the old roller track

One thing to note, and I consider Harry Barrett the best brake innovator of his time, is that the Barrett booklet is from the 1950's and nobody was reproducing roller tracks or welding tracks and refiling them, So I guess bending them made sense. Barrett made Brake Dokters for grinding the linings on the car from the centerline of the front spindle or rear bearing hub. If your tracks were high, low, or in between the Brake Dokter compensated for this. Old Harry's Brake Dokters are sought after these days and if complete get big bucks on the Bay. With all the nice new tracks, which are case hardened and the work required to mount them, I like the latest way.
