Default 1957 Ford Thunderbird Supercharged Fuelpump

My friend has a supercharged 57 motor and needs to know if it used a different fuel pump and if so what is the correct number. Where could he purchase one?

The Supercharged machines did use a special fuel pump.

Its Ford part# B7A9350-A. Gonna be tough to find. Try all of the T Bird venders.

I would suggest having the one he has rebuilt.

They also had a special fuel filter, with a return line back to the tank.

Here's one of a few places you can ask about them...

I thought they used the larger black "garbage can" filters on all E code and F-code cars ? The one pictured I thought was only on T-Birds with the base engine or single 4 barrell non/supercharged engines ?
Don't see the return line to the tank in the picture. It must be somewhere closer to the fuel pump.

The E-code Birds did use the 'garbage can' style fuel filter. (photo 1)

The added fuel return line was made necessary by the higher output fuel pump for the F-code Birds.
In the photo I posted above the glass bowl of the F-code fuel filter is 'up' and the return line is straight down, coming out of the center of the filter housing casting. (circled in yellow, photo 2)

Reference: CTCI Resto Manual, page 326 #13 (cuz I wasn't sure and looked there)

The single 4bbl (and 2bbl) '55/'57 T-Birds used a simpler style fuel filter, photo 3.

Thanks Dmsfrr,

I must be blind to miss the return line. Thanks for the info on filters. I've learned from this. Just when you think you knew it all.

You're welcome.
I didn't know either until I looked thru my T-Bird convention photos then found the explanation in the Resto book.
I didn't see it mentioned but I'd assume there's some sort of pressure relief valve built into the F-code fuel filter.

Minter Thunderbirds has been doing high-end restorations on a good number of supercharged Birds for a while now. They could be a good place to ask about parts, but be sitting down if you ask about prices.

CASCO in Ohio has a help line and they are very accommodating. I believe Hill's (also in Ohio) is the same although I have not used them for questions.

Here's a bit more info for your F-code owner friend...
The distributor is/was/should be a Thunderbird and supercharged specific version,
part number FEJ-12127-D
They are made of 99.9% pure unobtainum.

Except for the different part number and having dual points, they look the same as other tach drive '57 T-Bird distributors.

photo 2, distributor part number example, FEJ-12127-B2, from an E-code engine.

The early supercharged race only version vehicles are dubbed Phase 1 machines.

All of the Phase 1 machines did use the garbage can fuel filter.

The pressure relief fuel filter became necessary when the engine was no longer run wide open.

There a few differences between the engines the racers had access and what the public was offered. The public got the Phase 2 setups.

The distributor is a dual point and has only a 10* slot allowance for timing advance in the guts of the distributor.

I think all the Phase 1 Birds were "D" birds and are know today as DF Birds. The change to "F" came with Phase 2

Interesting fact is that when the 1957 Ford Chassis Catalog was printed on the date of September 1956 , on the patent plate identifications there was no designation of an "F" code engine.

That leads me to believe that the "F" machines were a late entry and as previously mentioned designated as D/F machines.

Then when finally released to the public in June of 1957 they were fully identified as "F" code engines.

I have also heard mention that there is/are/were some Phase 1- C/F Birds produced for the race boys.I have to find out more from one of my sources about those C/F Birds.

Here's more info for you...
Supercharged '57 T-Birds also aren't mentioned in the Sept. '56 Car & Thunderbird shop manual or this Aug. '56 sales brochure.
http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/stati...erbird-05.html

However, they are mentioned in this Feb. '57 brochure.
http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/stati...7)/image4.html

Data plate "F" code Birds were available to the public in the second half of the model year.
The earlier (January 25, 1957, Phase 1) D/F Birds were made for racing purposes. (from this link)

Hello Martin,

Welcome to the Ford Barn ! I'm not sure if you noticed, but the post from Craig was 15 months ago. I hope he still has the SC fuel pump. You can send him a personal message (PM) by clicking on his ID and then picking personal message.
