Default Question on the Fordbarn website photo

I am dumb. What is the mechanic greasing back by the rear bumperettes?

I cannot think of anything that needs lubrication back there.....

Or isnt that a grease gun?

No, you are not dumb, I was wondering the same thing! It sure looks like a grease gun, but who knows what fancy tools they had back then?

Like Bob, I think he is greasing the rear spring shackle, but I was wondering why he doesn't have the plunger rod pushed in on the grease gun and grab the barrel like he is supposed to. If he has much pressure the way he's handling the grease gun he will bend the plunger rod.

Is it possibly an aftermarket spare tire mount that swings out or down and that needs some grease?

It's one of those junky Chevys that got traded in on a new Ford, it was probably squeeking so bad they had to grease it to keep from going deaf!
