Default woodgraining attempt

After media blasting, priming and painting my Victoria interior parts I have started the Mahogany woodgraining. The parts were painted to match the color chip from the paint and finish guide. The woodgraining tools and supplies are from Grain IT. Now to clear coat in a semi gloss.

I have used the Grain It and got great results. My only recommendation is to have someone who can shoot a clear with a hardner you will get better results. Spray cans only get you so far.

lookin good guys! I wonder if people back then were put off or saw fake wood grained metal as "cheap". I see it like a veneer covered particle board desk instead of one made out of real wood. Sure from a distance it would be hard to tell but get close and one touch you can tell...

now I'm not complaining or anything in just curious why ford did wood graining and what peoples reactions were. Or was the thoughts like today where it looks nice and close to the luxury models of that time and thats what counts.

I've found that no matter what your grain looks like, "somewhere" in the world, there's a grain that looks like that. You don't have to be ARTISTIC to do this!
You may be disappointed, until you clear coat it, THEN, it takes on a NEW life.
I saw a PALE YELLOW Roadster Pickup, with wood graining & it was REALLY beautiful!
When I had Minerva, an all BLACK '30 Coupe, I "thought" about doing ALL the body reveals, in woodgrain. Chuck, our GURU painter, thought it would be nifty.

Hi Bill,
Your comment re RPU refers. Did they come out with with wood graining? I would like to try it on mine, provided the RPU were like that.

Chris

X2, I used Grain It on my cabriolet and am very pleased with the results. I had a friend do the clear with hardener for me. Doing practice pieces before starting on the real pieces helped a lot, and using the Grain It spray can clear on those made me realize I wanted professional help on the final clear.

I'd say a "hole in one" attempt! Amazingly fine job!

I did a few more pieces today. I decided to stagger the end of the blending paper which is a piece of 80 grit sandpaper, and to roll back into the paper instead of off it. It makes the blends almost invisible. Thanks for all the compliments. Art

Roadster Pickups DIDN'T come with woodgrain, they were CHEEP models.
