Default Help troubleshoot speedometer

My 5 year ground-up restoration of my Fordor is finally finished! I drove it on the road on Monday, and it was the first time it had seen pavement since the 60's. it was also my first time ever driving a model A on the road! Thanks fordbarners for all of your help.

My speedometer did not work though. I pulled the cable from the drive gear assembly and put a drill to it and the speedometer worked as it should. What do you suggest I check, or what do think the problem most likely is? I am hoping that it is not the drive gear on the end of the drive shaft. Does this fail very often?
Other info. that may be helpful- original drive gear, original gear assembly(both appeared good in restoration), new speedo, cable and housing. Cable is identical to original taken off (just not as rusty).
Thanks in advance.

Pull the drive gear housing off (two bolts) and verify that the speedometer cable is the correct length, matches the drive, and is engaging correctly in the shaft of the drive.
