Default Rumble Lock Trouble

After posting about this a while back, I fixed the problem by realizing that I had installed the handle incorrectly. But now it won't lock again. The key just turns really smoothly in the lock - no resistance. Is it the handle installation or is it the mechanism itself?

depending on what handle you have, it sound like the little tit that is on the end of the tumbler is broke off. they will do that.

Just a regular rumble handle.

Take the handle off, look at the latch, there should be 2 notches, then look at the handle, operate the key and see if the locking pin moves out and stays, I have seen the notches in the latch broke off

Just was looking and realized there was no nut on the end of the bolt on the driver's side rumble hinge. Took the whole rumble seat out and I am replacing the bumpers and new hardware all around. I want to take out the lock mechanism, how do I do that?

there is two screws on the edge of the lid right next to where the latch swing out. and the latch will slide right out.

I took those two screws out and it hasn't budged. Almost looks too big to come out.

Also, which way do the lower bumpers go? They were like this.

Update: replaced the handle and the mechanism. Although tighter, it still does not lock. What else could be the problem?

Did you check that the latch (hook) is thin enough to slide into the slot mounted on the cross member at the top. I had one that was too thick and wouldn't go in the slot.

It is thin enough. It will turn but not lock. I am puzzled.

On my '28, I bought an A/M latch piece that mounts the body. Even with filing the opening, it would not allow the paw to engage. Found a real Ford one, works perfectly.

Look from the top through the body opening to make sure it is clearing the catch on the body side.
