Re: 1947 ford car change to 8rt truck engine
You 'll have to use an 8BA family flywheel to use the truck or Merc half bell with starter plate. If you are lucky enough to have a 10 inch Long type clutch with the truck motor then it will work with the 47 trans. If you have 11 inch, you can get a machine shop to redrill the flywheel for a 9 or a 10-inch Long type clutch. A 49 to early 51 Merc Borg & Beck clutch will work too but are about as common as the pickup & station wagon 10-inch Long type clutch is.
You will need the truck pumps to fit the 59 swap. Fans will interchange as long as you use pickup or truck front engine components. Early 49 Merc components are near the same as the truck stuff but the waterpumps are different. 8BA family frontal engine components stick out a bit further than the 59 family due to the distributor used on them and its clearance issues with the belts. Mac VanPelts web site has a lot of info in VIN numbers and locations for them. Last edited by rotorwrench; 10-03-2013 at 01:14 PM. |
