Engine pans

I had a set of original pans for the 31 AA and must say I was impressed with the amount of air blowing out the hood louvers after installation. I found the heat inside the cab was greatly reduced as the air was venting through the hood as it should rather than into the firewall and down to the floor boards and road. I have no way of proving better cooling of the engine but it certainly cooled the cab on a summer days drive.
Looking for a set for the 28' coupe now.

Do you have Float a Motor engine mounts? if so the engine will not be as solidly mounted as original. The likelihood that the tabs at the frame could crack/ tear off. They would have to float (mounted loosely) to last. Even with original engine mounts they take a beating, still I use them.

I'll be putting floating mounts and engine pans on at the same time. How much flex are we talking about? Will rubber washers at the frame do the trick? Feels like it'll be better to cushion them on the frame side than the engine side.

I will receive this underfloor plate, possibly on friday. I will also fix the screw connection flexibly with thick O-rings.

Whether on the motor site or on the frame side, it doesn't matter in terms of vibrations +/- 1/8".

Since I want to make everything perfect, I insert each screw on the right and left with soft washers.


I took a 60 mm² copper flat cable to connekt the batterie between engine and frame.

Werner, Are you putting them on your 28 Roadster ? If yes, Do you have the early solid front Engine Mount Type car.. If yes, you also will have two holes in the crossmember to bolt to.. The pans are also different than all the others..

I don't know the differences between the front engine mounts.

Your is not the early front mount.

Good afternoon,

the underfloor motor pans are now installed. It was very easy in 1/2 hour. Thanks to your help, my Little Green Roadster is becoming more and more perfect.

I think they help with cooling. Had them on my Phaeton since 2001 and never had any issues with over-heating. Motometer gauge never shows any signs of stress and with a thermostat as extra safety measures to boot~~
