Default Body Mounting Bolts

The previous owners of my 30 Sport Coupe stripped out the square holes in the body sheet metal for installing the carriage bolts to install the body, (they are all now round holes). I like the look of the original smooth carriage bolt heads where they are visible when the body is mounted.

Has anyone tried to use new knurled-neck carriage bolts instead of new hex head bolts to mount the body? Any other solutions other than welding up the old holes and filing new square holes?

I'm not a purest 100 point restorer so I use button head bolts to bolt the bodies down on my deuces. They work real nice under the rubber mat or carpet.
