Replacing Dash Panel
Just got a new dash panel from Bert's for my 29 tudor. I haven't gone out to take it apart yet but was wondering how all the electrical connections are made for the amp meter, ignition, and speedo. Soldered joints, nuts, wire nuts? I am guessing they may be old and brittle and want to make sure I put it together clean and safe. Little by little this car is looking better and better.

Re: Replacing Dash Panel
Electrical connections are made with nuts. The speedo is mechanical. If you're concerned with the age/condition of the wires, why not order a new set from your favorite vendor?

Disconnect the battery before working on your dash!

Re: Replacing Dash Panel
12.00 for the dash harness... And at the same time you'll be going over the junction box connections cause it connects into there....
It's a no brainer to replace it |

Re: Replacing Dash Panel
I planned on disconnecting the battery. But I don't understand Mitch's comment. Where does the dash harness connect. Twelve bucks is cheap but what else will I get into..

Re: Replacing Dash Panel
Just the other end of that harness. It's in the junction box on the firewall. If you are concerned about the conniption of the other wires also, order the cutout to terminal wire and the coil to terminal wire. About another $12.

Re: Replacing Dash Panel
Being a "newbie", I might add a comment. I just replaced the terminal box wiring (dash), and the terminal to cut-out wiring this past wk-end. Easy job with all the diagrams/wiring info thru vendor/MAFC and forum information found here. I had a bare fire-wall and had already removed the dash to get rid of hidden wasp nest/critter litter, and any brittle or ?? wiring.!

Re: Replacing Dash Panel
And if you have the replacement style ignition switch already (not a pop out) put in this quality pop out look alike with cable since your already there
Poor quality ignition switches are known to fail...insulate the terminals as they can touch the gas tank and short |

Re: Replacing Dash Panel
I took the dash off and everything seems ok although I have not removed anything yet. I see that they sell a tool for use in replacing the gas gauge. I bought new inner and outer nut. I guess I need that tool to remove inner nut?? Can I just replace the nuts or will I need a gasket set? Gauge works fine ( or as well as it is supposed to). I just want to add new chrome inner/outer nut to look nice on new panel. I think I better order ALL the little things I need before starting this job...

Re: Replacing Dash Panel
The repo nuts don't have the right thread pitch and have been a real problem lately.. Beware and don't try to force them on...
u need a cork gasket set not neoprene because of the ethanol. And while your there replace the float with an ethanol fuel proof one |
