Early and Update models of the 1956 Ford Two Door Ranch Wagon. This "entry model" was based on the Mainline Series. Notice the added Tril on the updated model.

The blue one also looks like a '56 base Ranch Wagon with '55 or '56 Mercury front clip, bumpers, and tailights.

As our family grew in size during the early '60's, my '55 Pontiac 2dr sdn became very limited. We started looking a station wagons. I have always liked 2 dr sdn so I migrated towards a 2dr wagon, my wife said absolutely no, a new wagon had to be a four door.
We were always planning ahead so it took us a couple years to gather up the money for a new car, unfortunately the kids were growing and the 2dr Pontiac stayed the same.
In 1963 we finally opted for a new wagon, an Olds. Not many months after we got the Olds wagon my wife informed me that she was PG.. Never did get a 2 dr wagon..

Only in the U.S. was the OHV engine - Canada still had the flathead and kingpin front ends. I think Australia got the Canadian version.

Paul, You are absolutely correct, the Australian 1954 Fords retained the Flathead V8 Engine, as illustrated in the Ford Australia Sales Brochure.

The Australian '54 Ford also still had the king pin front spindles, and the same wheelbase as the '53, that was about 1/2" or 1" different than the US Fords. I don't remember if it was longer or shorter, but if you put a US Ford and an Australian Ford side by side, you can see the difference.

Note the position of the front wheel is not central to the cut-out on the Australian 1954 Fords, as they were built on the 52-53 Chassis with the 115" Wheel Base while the USA Built models were on a new 115.5" WB Chassis

^^^ I always loved those "airplanes" (or whatever they are) on the quarter panel. ^^^
Actually, I love a lot of things about the '59 Ford, one of their best designs ! IMHO
