Default 1940 Deluxe Coupe trunk won't open

Hi - I have a 1940 Deluxe Coupe that I moved the battery into the trunk. I tried to start the car the other day and the battery is dead (lasted over 10 years!). l need to get access to the battery, but when I use the key and turn handle the trunk won't open. I have tried pushing, pulling, and turning key back and forth. It is a reproduction latch that has worked with no problems for over a decade. I did a search, but didn't see a solution to my problem. Any suggestions on how to get my trunk open? Thanks, Brian

Pull the back seat, then go it and remove the latch from the inside. After you get it open, you should be able to figure out what’s wrong.

I have heard of folks holding pressure on the deck lid to compress the seals while unlocking. This can relieve some of the friction of the latch mechanism and allow it to release.

I pulled the bench seat out and went in and released it. Did adjusting and now works.

Thanks for the responses. I haven't pursued it yet, other than turning handle and pulling whenever I pass the car - just hoping for some good luck. Brian
