Default Most accurate tempt prob location?

I see there are 3 options for a location for the sensor prob for the coolant tempt. I assume the one that goes where the top radiator hose goes would be the most accurate. My assumption being the coolant flows from the bottom out the top of the motor. What has been your experience?

Reason for wanting to add a tempt gauge is I was about 30 miles away from the house in a congested area. I could see the tempt was raising on my radiator gauge but couldn't clearly see it. Traffic finally broke and I was able to get moving again and I could see the tempt was coming down. The gauge did work and I saw I was getting warm but not clearly. I just thought it would be nice to see the tempt in the cab.

I would go with the #3 nearest to head

Hallo, I had no. 1. That worked well, but it looked ugly, and it was very little space, because a hose thermostat is mounted as well. That's why I have now mounted nr 3. Looks nice and inconspicuous and works perfectly.

I put my sensors in the neck like #3 but I'm not so stupid as to put it where it gets in the way of the head nut directly under it. Come on vendors - can't you do better than this?

I also agree with #3.

Good location and it looks like some thing Henry would have offered.

#2 definitely is a NO. This will measure the temp of the cooled coolant from the radiator before it enters the engine.

My opinion,

#3 is best of the 3.

There is also a 4th - Vintage Precision - a great option. The housing also replaces the outlet neck. It has a place for the temp probe, a thermostat, and a bypass line.

Would like to hear you explain why this is your choice.

I have #3. Had to do something, someone tried to steel my mototmoter, and snapped the neck of my super duty radiator. The new radiator alone was $585 plus shipping, and my time to install.

Needless to say, the motometer is on my workbench now.

#3 is the most accurate position for engine temps, radiator temperature probe measures air or steam temperature.
When your in traffic use the hand throttle and increase the idle speed, also make sure the engine timing is advanced and not retarded!

I just aim the motormeter a little towards the driver so it's more visible, by design the motormeter reads the first steam befor full blown overheating

Thanks for the input. I didn't know if anyone had ran into any issues with any of them. Sounds like number 3 it is. I'll be ordering from Bratton's in the morning. Would be now but I can't see if they sale the old plug wire by the foot and I need some. Again thanks everyone.
