Re: Electric Fuel Pump 38 1/2 Ton Question
What type of pump is it and is it it 6V or 12V? I have been running a 12V low pressure, aftermarket fuel pump for 15 years and never had a problem.

Re: Electric Fuel Pump 38 1/2 Ton Question
The truck is almost all original and is still 6 volt. When I purchased the truck it has always had a 6 volt fuel pump.
Any ideas. When it is cool at night things seem fine.. As soon as I drive for 5 minutes it just quits and I must wait until it cools down thanks Jeff |

Re: Electric Fuel Pump 38 1/2 Ton Question
I have no idea... We take it for a ride today and it starts fine again.... driving for about 5-10 minutes and the fuel pump just shuts off.........we wait 15 minutes for it to cool down and it will start again but can only drive another 5 minutes.
I am fed up with this...My son installed new lines today and two new filters and its still the same problem... We removed the regulator last year as this was causing problems. Now it seems it the weather is warm she cannot go farther than 5 minutes down the road before it shuts off. |

Have you tested the pump to make sure that is what's going on? Just asking. |

Re: Electric Fuel Pump 38 1/2 Ton Question
Fuel pump works just fine when the truck is cool... When it warms up it turns off.
We are going to replace it this week. I hate these pumps |

Re: Electric Fuel Pump 38 1/2 Ton Question
had an electric fuel pump on my 51 Merc. when I first got it. It did nearly the same thing. when cold/cool it worked fine. finally one day it quit in traffic. reached under the car and the pump was hot to the touch. had a spare in the car so changed it in a parking lot. fired it up and drove home. after the pump had cooled down and I was back at home I ran it on the workbench and went through about 2 gallons of fuel before it got hot and seized up. after it cooled down it worked again. needless to say it went to the dump. I say change the pump.---Jim

Re: Electric Fuel Pump 38 1/2 Ton Question
Some of the fuelpumps have a condenser in them to save the contactpoints.
When they get old and heat up shorts out. |

Re: Electric Fuel Pump 38 1/2 Ton Question
Hi there, Use an "AIRTEX" #E8902 low pressure 2 to 4 PSI, 6 volt and works with positive or negative ground system. Regards, Kevin.

Re: Electric Fuel Pump 38 1/2 Ton Question
f you have a bad coil or condenser you will get the same results. When the engine shuts off from no spark no gas is being used and back pressure in the pump may shut the pump off ??? G.M.
