Smile Top Padding

I am putting a new top on a 31 coupe. I have some thin foam material that came from the gaslight parts store. I can't decide to use it or the cotton underlayment that the other dealers sell. I have also been told that a thin blanket like the cheap ones sold at walmart will work good.
How about some input! I want the best results with no regrets.
Thanks, Jim in S.C.

I would only use the cotton. Faom a lot of times is too puffy and doesn't look good. Foam also will break down in time, then you'll have a mess.

My wife would tell you to use a product called "Warm & Natural" available at most any fabric store. That's what she uses in the quilts she makes.

I was having the same thoughts a few months a go and posted a question on the board . in regards to this subject. One of the Fordbarners came up with the idea use a horse blanket . I did and ............ worked perfectly. The right thickness ,sturdy stuff and made of wool and cotton. price 8,--

The foam will break down with age and eventually the chicken wire will leave its pattern on your black top material. The quilting padding (some type of acrylic fiber) makes a nice pad but has too much resilence in it - its too "puffy" and the blaack top material has a puffed look. The cotton padding works best. Or maybe the horse blanket idea would work great- the right thickness and wont deteriot (sp). ken
