no Doug cant be that lucky. however I think the old boy did brushes, Too much meat for 84 yrs. however still like to turn out a good 1/2 more volt

Can you measure the output? Should be above 6v for sure, somewhere in the 7.2/7.3v range

Voltage regulators can be adjusted, BUT, it requires bending components and a very small adjustment can make a big difference.

I assume we are talking about a Ford. Get a good repair manual that covers the electrical system and follow the test procedure or find someone who is familiar with Ford systems. I for one would not try to tell you what to do online, except make sure reg is grounded and all connections are clean and tight. Maybe someone else will chime in.
