I had a fresh tune up in a stock 50 sedan with overdrive. Steady 50 mph in overdrive was 22 miles per gallon.
My 53 sedan with 215 OHV six and overdrive will get a little over 20 if I keep it under 65, but drops to 18.5 at 75.
Overdrive and slow speeds are your friend if mileage is a big concern, but how many miles do you have to drive to pay for the overdrive?

Not sure I've made the effort to know.

My older f150 gets 13mpg. So anything above that is gravy to me.

Need a electronic runaround car to offset my day to day. I don't need a big gas truck to go to pick up groceries. But it certainly helps the few times I need gravel or pull a boat.

I'm probably crossing a line but if you have read the US 2021 national intelligence council 4 yr report. It stresses that alternative fuel is key to national security.


For 50 yrs the policy was to use others oil instead of ours. But the US is the number 1 exporter. So... why is gas high here or our buddies??? Policies and politics aside.

we drove our '41 fordor from Ny to Fla, 302, 2brl, 2:73 gears and got 24.5 MPG.

Think about energy as a centralized power plant is an old idea. If every one had one solar panel on their house it would reduce the idea of power only delivered by one controlling entity. I'm sure the power companies and the lineman will do just fine managing the grid lines.



Don't worry however, they will figure out to tax for lost revenue from gas. Republicans in minnesota are already floating a bill to tax electric vehicles to off set gas taxes.

If the price of gasoline staus high in the future. more guys will begin tuning their engines. This takea some exoerimentin, bt the theory is to burn a lean mixture. This takes allot of ignition advance. and the spark plug location becomes an issue. i have 2 engines in the works right now , both are 258 ci displacement . The first one will have the experimental LS intake style port yjr other is waiting for that Information. With a cam change the Cr increased It can be used to check fuek mileage. This will require a dist like Charley makes and a better carb. I;ll start with a 2GC. Some people here are running EFI systems and they can give us the timing numbers to get into the 15.5/1 CR range the modern cars run in creise.

So now 60hp cars may become more valuable ---the 39 4 door with stock 60 hp once I learned how to drive it got 25+ mpg keeping it under 60. anytime it dropped to 40 on hills downshift to 2nd --it would take less throttle to go 45 in second than 40 in third on hills.
just under 20 mpg at 70 ---this car drove and rode really nice on the highway --fuel mileage documented with long term fuel useage records

Around here everyone drives jacked up trucks with v8's. Few need it other then it's cool most of the time. It's hard not to understand reality and want to feel a bit despondent when they bitch.

For some, the second largest investment they make is a vehicle. It's just a depreciating asset, transportation. In Florida we always joked about seeing corvettes sitting in apartment complexes. It was maybe a florida thing

Not as cool as 39 4 door making 20. Also is a appreciating asset. Not like they are making new ones.

It's a lot more than $5.00 per Imperial gallon!! It's about $2.00/ltr Can.
There are about 4.5 ltrs in a Imp. gallon so that's about $9.00 gallon. Our dillusional PM has brought in carbon taxes and fuel conservation taxes (actually a second carbon tax) and it goes up yearly. Consider we have huge oil reserves and supply the US with 50% of their oil we get no breaks in Canada. I am in Florida untill the snow melts. The gas prices here today are about $4.00 a US gallon (about 3.9 litres). The worst is heating our homes with natural gas which is 80% of all households. These taxes are applied to this as well.
