Any new ideas on stopping a persistant leak at the carb drain plug?

A very important tip. Don't over tighten the drain plug. The leak may be coming from the bottom of the jets or the top of the jets if the float valve is sticking. There is a 1/16" hole in the bottom of the air horn that dribbles back to the drain.


Again, don't strip your drain threads.

yup it may not be that washer/gasket on the drain at all it my be drooling out one of the jets.
you can test that by just removing the bottom of the carb, set it on the bench so it is level. dry out the throat where the jets are, fill the bowl to within 5/8" of the top flange and let it sit. at least an hour, you will see it wet around the jets if that is the issue

If you are getting this leak when the fuel is turned off, my bet is that the shutoff valve under the tank is not sealing, nor is the float valve. I have used this repair kit and had great success (and it won't break the bank) https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/p...9345&cat=41707
Alternatively, you may need a new valve but I haven't heard good things about the new repro ones.
If originality is not important to you, a 1/4" ball valve from a plumbing supply place is great but you'll need a couple of other fittings to install it. NO leaky.

As indicated the leak may be from elsewhere, fuel leaks trickle down to drip from the lowest point -the drain plug; the drain plug be innocent . If it is the drain plug , try a new gasket and brand new plug (the threads get worn) with some gasket sealant like Hylomar blue. Sometimes filing down the casting a millimetre or so at the face of the female threads will lead the plug into the deeper unused decent threads. ( don't think I've explained that very well)

"Yellow" teflon tape on the threads may help if the threads aren't to far gone
