Window Roller to Grease or Not?
"Lithium"
"No, Axle Grease" "Graphite" "Korean Grease" "Leave it Dry!" "Red Lithium" "Ford sells this spray..." Ok, ok, what is the consensus? What is the correct way? I found what may be graphite only on the rollers... |

Re: Window Roller to Grease or Not?
Jwa, My '55 has all the original steel rollers. When my cars were all apart, I cleaned the roller parts in paint thinner, then after they dried, I applied lubriplate all over the roller parts and they still work like new.
Lubriplate is what was used at the factory for lubricating these. After about ten years, the lubriplate may become hardened and powdery, then it becomes necessary to clean or scrape off the old stuff and apply new lubriplate again and go another ten years. You can also buy lubriplate in small cans like axle grease and caulk tubes too, but I find it is more applicable for all around automotive use just to have the little cans with metal lid that re-seals (like an old paint can). Lubriplate was also used on door striker plates and mechanism, door and trunk hinges, hood and trunk latches, so its best to keep a can around for the old junkers. |

That is what I use, one made by Gunk. Make sure the old grease is off, the 2 greases may interact and gum things up.

Re: Window Roller to Grease or Not?
A little research found a grease that lasts longer than lithium. Only $8 a tube at O'Reilleys too.
