What is the difference?

Top doesn't fold on a Sports Coupe.

Sport coupe is roughly a coupe with soft top. No top let down
Cabby is loosely a roadster with roll up windows and full top let down
Open vs closed cars

The quickest way to tell the difference is to look for the visor over the windshield. The sport coupe has a visor like other closed cars. The cabriolet does not have a visor.

On a 29, the Fordor type cowl is a dead give away. The wood structured cars were mostly built by the sub contractors like Briggs and Murray with the exception of the station wagon type bodies. Briggs made the Cabriolets. The Ford made Sport Coupes have a full height door with a roll up window but the Cabriolets have a chrome framed door glass and the door is only cowl height except for the front glass channel hinge piece. The door handles are the scroll type. There is a lot of wood in these cars.

Galabus right on….lots of wood in cabby.
Cabby is a tough resto; with some previous experience a SC isn’t too bad.

Also Sport Coupe has opening rear curtain unlike hard top coupes.

Not correct terminology, one is a convertible ( Cabriolet ) the other is not!

I was drawing a distinction between soft top coupes and hard top coupes. Cabriolet also has an opening rear curtain. I was not calling a Cabriolet a Coupe. Sorry that wasn’t clear but wow, no need to shout.

I may be new here but have been in this hobby for a looooooong time.

Don’t take type fonts too personally. I can’t speak for McM, but there have been and likely still are commenters on the Barn who have difficulty reading online material. I know of at least three older guys who resort to or relied on either bold face or ALL CAPS to assist their reading, one who used all caps but always had good comments. Unfortunately, he passed away a couple years ago. A lot of us are old guys who are just trying to adjust to being old. If I judge any comment, and I seldom do, it is based on its accuracy or relevance, not what the type looks like.

Having owned a cabriolet 68B in pieces since 1994, finding top parts, wood and small detail parts are the biggest difference between the two. Fitting everything so it looks right and works...well, I'm still working on that. Loving my "A"s for 49 years.

Ray makes a good point- I have often mistakenly typed in caps and not shouting, but too lazy to erase what I wrote and start over.

I also thought shouting was only caps- not italicized?

I use bold print so us older folk can read better. Nowhere can I find that it means shouting as you have suggested. You might want to research your font meanings.

Point taken McMimmcs.

Maybe it was more about the tone as opposed to the bold type-face; not font, a font is something different (for the observant, this is italics.) I try to be helpful and productive with my comments on here. It rarely helps to correct others or point out their mistakes or poorly written comments. Asking for clarification is always appropriate.

Quite right Oldbluoval, and an appropriate time to shout!

I know you are an expert on Cabriolets, how about pointing out some of the not so obvious construction differences between the two? Get this thread back on topic.

A Sport Coupe looks like she'll let her top down but never does.

A Cabriolet looks like she'll let her top down and does from time to time.
