Getting the correct color

I'm getting to the point where I need to get the paint for my 29 ccpu, but when I tore the cab a part I see the original color. It's a blue greenish color, would the rock moss turn to that color? How many colors were there for my truck? Thanks Pete

I think most 28 and 29 pickups were painted Rock Moss Green from what I have seen and learned - my 29 was originally that color. I would bet that is the color your pickup was originally painted. BTW, most pickups were not rubbed out, leaving the paint a slightly dull (satin) finish. I believe only if the buyer paid extra, would Ford "polish" a pickup, and most buyers didn't pay extra for polishing since they were used for business or farm use.

You should buy or borrow a copy of the Model A Ford Paint & Finish Guide booklet. It has color chips in it for each name. The names sometimes don't sound like what they look like.

When comparing chip colors to the car, mask off the white paper background that the chip is mounted on with a sheet of neutral grey paper. Otherwise the white page blooms into the chip and changes its look.

Best to compare out in natural light, if you can.

The reason he said it was probably painted Rock Moss Green is because MOST pickups and truck were painted that color.

The paint degradation of the original pigmentation can be extreme due to UV light. We found Apple Green looking like a yellowish white but not until a form of spectroanalysis did we find chemical composition was an oxidation of copper that made the principal compound of the paint color giving Apple Green when new. I found too that by wiping the completely white paint with linseed oil, a bit of the color would return. It will take a chemical lab that specializes in that kind of paint analysis to find the right color...I'd check the Standards for the color, and make a best guess and save the money for another part of the restoration.
