'32 steering box questions ?
My '32 steering box has sat neglected (no lube) for long time.
Filled with heavy lube oil and it leaks badly out of bottom. Haven't messed with car for years. Is there a 'seal' of some sort at bottom of box that will need replaced ? Do you guys have any other suggestions/remedy for stopping such bad leak...short of removing box for rebuild ?? |

Re: '32 steering box questions ?
The bottom plate has a circular cork gasket/plug. Could be this was all dried out and is now leaking.

Re: '32 steering box questions ?
Replace that bottom plate with the '33+ version with a brass tube attached in the center encasing the light switch rod that extends far enough up to be beyond the lubricant in the steering box and your leak will be history.

Re: '32 steering box questions ?
some folks also silver solder the end of the brass tube mentioned, where it is crimped on to the end plate for a complete seal

Q: Can the F100 box , rebuilt/modified (Mel Gross), be installed on a '32 ? I'm thinking that my '32 box may be toast from working without lube.... |

Re: '32 steering box questions ?
Put Corn Head grease in it . Get it from John Deere tractor dealer. It is very thin with a low melting temp.
