fan application help Q
I just bought a water pump, with a custom made 'spacer/fan attachment part'. This is the mid thirties type pump that are used/adapted to use on B head/block.
Problem is I need help figuring WHAT fan did adaptor maker intend to use ? None I hade fit mounting hole pattern ? I'm going to try adding pictures now. What has happened to prevent me from showing pictures now ?? Use SAME process as before (maybe 2 months ago) and never had a problem showing pictures. ANYONE know ? |

Re: fan application help Q
i think you are talking about the adapter to use a 32-36 water pump, on an A head. i have one, but sorry i cant remember what fan i used. i know i started out with a 2 blade fan from a 20's chevy i had, and it did not cool well. i then found a 4 blade fan with the same pattern from a.....not sure, but model a truck, or aftermarket thing. sorry i cant help better! i believe cragar made those adapters

Re: fan application help Q
Thanks for sending me the pictures. You should be able to post the ones I returned to you. The spacer was probably intended to put the fan in the correct location for his project. My guess is that the guy had a '32 fan with a long spacer so he punched out the rivets and made the spacer the length he needed. I bet that any Ford fan blade could be used by punching out the rivets and using bolts to attach it to the spacer, but I don't have one to check. I wonder how the water pump bearings will hold up under the load of the fan? That holds the spacer to the water pump pulley?

Re: fan application help Q
Hey Bob,
Basically same pump and fan holder arrangement. NOW, thanks to Charlie, I can post the pictures that I tried to before. As you will (hopefully) see, the fan adapter on front of pump is about 1 1/4" thick aluminum. Bolt hole spacing specs will also show if pics show. Well, found out from Charlie's information, WHY my pics not posting now. I recently used an Iphone for pics. Resolution/pics...tooo good/big to post. So, now that that is happily figured, here are pics from old camera chip way: THANKS CHARLIE FOR HELPING FIGURE THIS OUT !! Bob, what is that pictured fan from and is it a vendor product ? You gave me enough feed back to let me figure out WHAT I had changed...I.e.-camera to iphone. Since I haven't a clue about how to reduce iphone pics, I'll just re-use old way Canon camera. I do have Cyclone and other adaptors such as Bob shows in his pics. That is not the subject/problem. As you will now see from my posted pics, the alum adaptor for fan BOLT HOLE spacing is my problem/situation. I have model a two blade fan (two blades which bold together) from vendors, that have tooo wide spaced holes. Also , if nothing else pans out, will look at your idea of taking rivets from a fan to try pattern of fasteners. Your comment about durability (stress/strain on bearings)of this type mod, is well to consider ! This pictured setup was obviously run before I got it in Bakersfield this past Friday. The bearings/shaft in pump appear to be very solid / tight. And, adapter seems to be machined / centered well. We'll see , as I'm going to run it , if fan can be found for it. Thanks, but I have several different old adapters such as you are referring to. That is not the problem. Thanks for your FAN app references, may help there. |
