Default Toasted Dist Cap Coil Socket

I recently had a crank-no-start problem on my stock 1950 Ford V8 6v + ground. When I pulled the coil wire it was black on the dist. cap end and so was the dist. cap socket. I replaced the cap with a new one, cleaned up the black coil wire end and it fired right up. While I was at it I replaced the points, rotor and coil. Any ideas what caused the coil wire and dist. cap socket to turn black? Thanks

I think you'll find the wire wasn't pushed all the way into the cap and the spark had to jump from the wire to the socket in the cap. Walt
