Default Evans Intake on E-Bay

Hi all, Has anyone checked out the Evans 2x2 Intake, offered by So Cal on E-Bay, for a mere 888.88. I know nothing about the Evans story.
Are they that rare and the valueable realisticly?

Any info at all will be appreciated. Thanks

I guess the question i'm asking is, how rare are they, and what is a reasonable price?
Because I just discovered a nice one in Daddy's Barn, and I'm wondering if it would be more desirable if I polished it, or just clean it good?

Rare is a very overused term these days. There are enough of these out there that about $350-$400 would be a good and, maybe, somewhat higher end price.

Are they as common as a Edlebrock or Offy? No. Are they rare like a Burns with the bolt on risers or a Jack Henry, no.

IMHO, there is a reason why you also don't see too many. The design of the Evans FH intakes doesn't seem that great to me. One of the biggest snags is they don't have gen. mount. Deal breaker, no. Just something else you need to think about when installing it on an engine.

That being said, anything flat head is always cool and has value to somebody.

They are a nice looking intake and depending on the condition look great polished. The last one I had a couple of years ago I sold for $250

For anyone interested in the history of speed parts I would recomend a book called the "Merchants of Speed". Gives the history of many of the names that we all know and some we may not know.
It is amazing what these guys built considering that most of them started in their or their parents garages.
Earl Evans started out working in a foundry and took up dirt track racing as a hobby in the late 20's/early 30's out in California. He started out casting double carb intakes for Model A's and B's operating a small machines shop out of his garage.
After the war he became seriously involved with the production of speed parts for the Flathead V-8.
Also ran a belly tanker at the salt flats as well as getting into 1/4 midget racing.
Like most of the speed parts companies at that time he started out doing it as a side line and was able to turn it into a full time job.
Torchie.

Thanks: Tim; 4tford; Torchie: I think you covered just about all of my curio's. Guess that means I won't be retiring on that find. LOL

I sure is nice to be able to access so much info, and so fast. Thanks to the FORD Barn, and especially you members that offer opinions, and knowledge so freely.

No problem. If you don't need to sell it, I would it. Nothing looks cooler that a few flathead intakes hanging up in the old garage. I love them as art.

I had the opportunity to buy either a Navarro or Evans 2 carb manifold at a local swap meet a couple of years ago. $225, my choice. I bought the Navarro, but wish I'd bought both. I'd say $250 or there abouts is the going rate.

My general rule with anything old, car parts, coins etc. Is to not do anything to it. Many times you can drastically reduce the value by cleaning it.

The Navarro is an excellent intake.
