Default 33 Steering Box

Hi Barners, I have spent many hours trying to get my 33 steering to an acceptable standard. After several attempts to restore the box & adjust as per green book I decided enough was enough.
I contacted Flathead Ted and ordered his modified boxes that he was advertising. Fitted the box and off for a trial run. The steering was so light that I nearly wiped out the back mudguard backing it out of the shed.
I have always enjoyed driving the 33 but now it is such a pleasure.
Thank you Ted.

As mentioned before I'm happy with the box.
One thing to keep in mind is the different shaft lengths & location of steering lock tab. Maybe send your old shaft to Ted.

Part of what I have been doing is working out the steering shaft specs ,so I can supply the complete unit ,at this point I am not supplying or drilling the steering lock tab ,The lengths are 33-34, 42".
32 -41"
Model A 44-1/8

The parting line between 13 to 1 and 15 to 1 ratios was a running change in the '33 model year. Also early '33 steering shafts and tubes are shorter than the later '33 (and all '34) shafts and tubes.

The 33 &34 will be standard ised at 15 to 1 .The lock collar can be fitted later to suit. I plan to do a 35 /36 at some point .I think that early 33 may have used the 32 shaft at 31" but I can do any required .Ted

Is lock to lock the same for the 13-1 as the 15-1?

What is the difference between your 15-1 34 and a stock 15-1?

With mine you have a roller like a 37 to 40 rather than a peg ,Also with a 15 to 1 you get maybe half a turn more ,Ted

Ted,
Do you envisage ever making your new steering box for a Model A?

And in RHD?

Thanks for making the 32 and 33-34 boxes available.

I would be interested in having one of your modifications for my 36.
