Default Missing Zerk...

Everything was going so well....

Planned on installing the transmission tomorrow and just realized that the used clamshell I bought is really two upper halves...

No bottom half with the threaded hole for the zerk...

I have the zerk, I have a 1/8 NPT tap..

I have the inner portion so I could locate the hole properly..

Do you think I could successfully drill one of the halves and tap it for the zerk?

It would probably take until next week to get a replacement, unless I can find one locally....

The grease fitting is not in the U-joint clam shell housings. It is located in the rear bearing retainer that is bolted to the rear of the transmission that the clam shells bolt to. The grease fitting is located in the lower right portion of the bearing retainer.

Be careful when selecting one as there is an early and a late bearing retainer and the bolt patterns are different. Check that they match the U-joint housings you are using.
