Thinking I should sell my 8BA
I have had the 8BA in my 52 F3 for a while now. I just need more of an every day driver. So I am throwing a diesel in it. Just another project I know. But I don't really want to pull the 8BA and let sit. I just not sure how much it is worth now a days. It runs fine, has new water pumps, high torque starter, pertronix ing. Back by the original 3 speed truck transmission. Can be seen here http://www.jefftrumbull.com/default.aspx?aid=5
If you guys could let a little help on what it is worth I appreciate it. I just want to be fair if/when I sell it

Re: Thinking I should sell my 8BA
running 8ba around here would be $1000.00, add to that the ign upgrade, starter, etc, 3 speed trans $150 to 200.00

Re: Thinking I should sell my 8BA
Alan's price seems about right. If possible, sell it while it's in the truck so buyers can hear it run and test drive it.it Once you remove it, the price drops and the buyer will probably want to remove the heads to look for any cracks.

Re: Thinking I should sell my 8BA
Around my part of the country a complete 8BA with tranny and all would probably sell for closer to $3K

Re: Thinking I should sell my 8BA
What makes you think that putting a diesel in that thing would have ANYTHING to do with what the H.A.M.B. is about? It DOESN'T! DD

Re: Thinking I should sell my 8BA
Kids these days!
I don't get this whole diesel craze, but I'm sure there are other forums (and TV shows) that will welcome you with open arms. As for selling the flattie, it's worth what a buyer will pay. If I was a buyer, either the heads come off or I pay scrap price. All flatties are cracked until proven otherwise. I had a seemingly perfect running one (smooth, didn't overheat or leak) that has 45 lbs compression in one cylinder and 65 in another. Cracked thru the valve seats in two cylinders. |

Re: Thinking I should sell my 8BA
If it runs and doesnt overheat, its good for a driver. Why take it apart. Everyone wants perfect and a lifetime warranty, in that case buy a new car.
If you know anything about a flathead ford, its cracked |

Re: Thinking I should sell my 8BA
I'll disagree with you gentlemen. I have purchased 3 good running 8BA's over the last 20 years. Two that passed stringent testing before rebuilding and one that I have been running in my '51 for well over a year with no adverse symptoms. I did buy one hulk engine that was cracked. Three out of three is awfully good luck or an indication of something else.
