Default Fire Wall Insulator

Does anybody have feedback on a fire wall insulator? They run about $160 and I'm not sure they are worth the price and the headache to install it. On the other hand the car was pretty warm yesterday. What do you say?

We have one installed by prior owner on our late '31. Not sure they reduce noise but the front cabin doesn't seem as warm compared to other cars. A down side is that access to the j box bolts and other firewall fittings is a challenge.

I don't understand why? The junction box bolts pass thru the insulation pad and her[ hold it in place. The "bolt" heads are readily accessible.
Works good for heat, sound not so much. I wish I had installed Dnyamat to the firewall before installing the firewall insulator.

We have them on all the cars, work well for noise and the engine heat.

I think it would be more effective on the engine side. Look at a modern car. Look at it this way if you are driving instead of fine point judging then does it really matter what side it's on if the hood is down?

Much easier to install on ‘30-31 than ‘28-29, but in either case well worth the effort. We drove our ‘29 town sedan 165 miles in 90 degree + heat yesterday to and from Penn Ohio meet. Firewall insulator cuts down on heat and noise. I also used dyna-mat insulation (not sound deadening) on floorboards under carpeting. Helps a bunch also.

Thanks all for your responses. I think I'll head to Snyder's later this week to pick up the part. It promises to be a long hot summer.

Think ahead. I put one in and didn't think about the inlet for the manifold heater. Now trying to get to the swing door to let in heat this winter will be a challenge.

I use the firewall insulator from Brattons with good results. . It is best to install with the gas tank and wiring removed or before the tank and wiring is installed . If the firewall insulator needs to be removed later without damage it will be a real pain because all of these same parts will need to be removed again .
