Question 8-BA Connecting Rods Oil Hole

So it has been awhile since i assembled a Flathead. I am using a 8-BA crank & rods in a 99-T engine I am building for my 35. Do the oil squirt holes in the rods go to the front or the rear of the engine, my memory tells me the front but-?

THANKS'
Mike D.

Both front and back...
Stamped numbers on rods towards pan rail.
Drivers side oilholes then goes to front and passenger to rear...if i didnīt mix it up...

Regardless of stamped numbers, from shop manual--

If installed like that, does that mean they all squirt towards the cam?

Facing away from each other would give the widest pattern i suppose...
Cam and pistonpins would gain...more oil for rings to handle can be debated...

The oil holes are to be pointing toward the cam if the stock holes are considered. If the rods are Federal-Mogul rebuilt(and perhaps other Manufacturers) it is likely new holes have been drilled (different location)and placement orientation is moot.

I often wondered why the holes were necessary. After all the amount of oil that leaves the bearings, is far more than that which comes out of the little holes. This oil covers everything in the bottom of the block. Cam and cylinder walls. Now in a racing engiine special pipes pump oil onto the bottom of the pistons for cooling.

Piston squirts in aircraft engines are to cool the underside of the piston.

Ford used them in many engines following the flatheads, so they must have been somewhat important.
