Cool Tack strip wood on Parcel shelf 28 Sport Coupe

Does anyone know the size of the wood strip that screws onto the front edge of the parcel shelf for a 28-29 Sport or Regular Coupe.

I believe the wood is 1 5/8"x 1 5/8". I have one in the top of my barn I can measure tomorrow if no one posts dimensions before I measure it. There are 2 narrow oval shaped holes in the wood for the metal seatback alignment plates to fit into. If you are a taller person, like me, you can move the wood behind the front flange of the package tray like I did to get a little more room. The adjustment procedure is in the Ford Service bulletins.

Tinbasher,
I dug the wood piece out from the top of my barn and took a couple pictures of it and some measurements. The piece is a square 1 5/8"x 1 5/8" by 46 inches long. Note in the pictures there are the 2 slotted holes for the seat backrest plates. If you notice your package tray itself, you will see two slotted holes toward the front of the tray just like the ones in the wood picture. This is so you can move the stiffening piece of wood behind the tray flange to get more seat room. I don't need the wood anymore. It is in pretty good condition if you want to purchase it. If you don't, no problem. Hope this helps.

When the wood strip is moved back, it does NOT increase the LEG or GUT room, it just moves your shoulders back!

Bill,
I didn't say more leg room, I said a little more room. Ford has this in their service bulletins, so complain to Ford.

Another question: Is the tack strip wood for the parcel shelf 1-5/8 x 1-5/8 straight, or is it curved? I have one that is dry-rotted and unusable, so I took my other one off my old parcel shelf to use on another one, and it is curved so that the middle is about an inch higher than the ends. The dry-rotted one is straight. See photos.

It seems the parcel shelf is straight across, so I may have to make my own wood piece.

Dunno if 28 - 29 is different but IIRC, shelf on our 30 Sporty was straight. Maybe your curved piece is warped?

I think it is. After 90 years, maybe it just got tired! Thanks.

I made a new one. Easy job. After bolting the new piece to the back side of the package tray lip, I had to bolt it to the top of the package tray to make it lay in square.
