Default Spark plug lifting ring

Does anybody make a lifting ring for standard 14mm plugs? I have the one for standard A plugs.

Funny you ask because I was wondering the same thing this morning for lifting a Studebaker engine. I'd only use two for lifting though, not just one.
Easy enough to make by using junk spark plugs.

One (or two, as Tom said) of these and old spark plug bodies would do it. Capacity is shown as 500#

I use one of the manifold studs and remove water inlet then use a grade 8 bolt, long chain with another bolt to form a loop.

I've lifted a few motors in the past 70 years and would always have the head off and use two head bolts and chains.

when I had the stock head I used the rings & worked well . best thing is the adjustable top piece that allows you to move lifting angle

Here are mine.
I made them when I was about 17 years old.
Still the only ones I use 40 years later.
The forged eye fits smooth in the base, and swivels 360 degrees.

Similar concept to mine, but the Fastenal link shown are only 1/4-20 thread, which is scary small for me.
I used 7/16 inch diameter IIRC.

Follow up....a 14mm plug is about 1/2 the diameter of an A spark plug. None of the sources offered up here had what I need. I too have made my own lifting ring that could be used on a stock A head....However, this is a freshly painted engine with the head installed and I do not want to use a chain as there is a possibility that the paint will get dinged up.....I've decided to use nylon axle straps modified to lift an engine. 2500 Pound breaking load.

Very nice idea/pics, thanks for sharing ! I have ton of junk plugs.
I especially like that 'no welding' equipment needed !

What you have done is a great idea. But why did you cut the threads?

Rich,
The nuts are welded on the ends to assure they never loosen or come off. That might be bad if it came loose!

The groove cut through the base is so that compression is always relieved on the cylinder in case I want/need to rotate anything while it's hanging

I'm sorry that I did not understand what you needed. The link I provided to the company in TX sells 3 different engine lift rings,

Standard T
Model A
and 14mm

I thought that was what you needed, a 14 mm engine lifting ring.

Very well thought through...the cut did have me 'thinking..what?'
I make a cut similar to that to clear bunged up threads in head and other apps., and thot that that might be it.

Could this idea/creation be used with 14 mm plugs also, I'm wondering or not large enough through opening ? Maybe weld ring to top of plug base ?
