Default Is Locktite Binding available?

Is there are vendor that sells the Locktite trim binding (rear roof binding) Apparently it's different then the Hidem type. I've searched LeBaron Bonney as well as A parts vendors but have failed to find it.

Barb, I think Marco & Sturm are making their own for their projects. You probably will need to make your own depending on who is going to do the upholstery.

The top is done. I just want to fix the incorrect Hidem that was used with a correct type edging. Guess it's time to punt.

Contact Marco or Strum about how to make it. It is kind of a PIA to make. Once it is installed it likes to flip up so you need to tack it down with some silicon. At least that is what I have been told.

Strum had extra and I know that was used up for a points car when I called to try and buy some a few years ago. There was a discussion on the binding on the Cabriolet board. There you will find pictures of the bindings and some comments on making it.

I took your advise and did some searching on the Cabriolet boards. This is what I found but no info on how to make it. Is this picture of correct Locktite? Was it also made with a black material?

The original Locktite was made by special machines that fed all the parts in and output the finished product. I would guess it was produced at about 30 feet per minute. Unfortunately, reproducing it is essentially a multi-step "free hand" creation and as such the method chosen is up to the person doing it based on his/her equipment and capabilities.

Mine does stay snapped closed like the original. As noted it's a real pain and extremely time consuming, at least for me. One of the Cabriolet folks should know who made a bunch for them. It was very respectable.

Originally it was made in almost every artificial leather used on Model A's

Beautiful beautiful top. I would think the demand would drive the manufacture of it and make the cost per foot almost acceptable.

Called Bill Sturm about one month ago, and he told me he was trying to retire and would not make any more binding. The guy who makes the correct welting tips told me to contact Gary Wert (717) 938 4250. Phoned him, and he will make the binding at approx $300 for a Cabriolet. For me, that was a bit expensive. If there is any significant discount by pooling orders, I would probably be in.

Barb, Looking at your picture of the cross section it looks like 2 different sizes of piping and an oval piece. Yeah it would be time consuming but with the correct attachment on a machine could be done. Different materials could make a difference how well it stays locked as well when making it for consistent dimensions. Trouble with vinyl is shrinkage over time and would present problems keeping it locked. How many different colors and or materials were available originally? Finding the correct materials, finding stitch length etc would be time consuming. Does anybody have the blue prints for this? Like everything else this would be judging standards critical I'm sure.
