Default Model A Engine in Gleaner Combine

I will be picking this engine up this Spring sometime.. I have only seen the pictures of it and was wondering What kind of Ignition system it has on it.. I figure Parts are Parts. One Day I will have a Model A even if its Johnny Cash Style One piece at a time.

I cannot see it closely (clearly) but it looks like either a Mallory industrial dist., or an Autolite industrial distributor.

Good for you! One piece at a time works great! Even if you had the whole car that was in bad shape, you would be REPLACING it one part at a time. This way you don't have to take anything apart!!!

The Gleaner Model A engines that I am familiar with have an industrial Mallory unit on them. The Mallory unit that I have (full of rust) is a dual point unit.

Thanks Guys.. I will have this engine and another one thats in a weed pile by it.. When I get er picked up I will take some better pics and post.. Its a friend of mines grandfather that had the Gleaner combine and lets just say the price was right.. The Car I have is an old 29 Coupe that has had its roof cut off many moons before I was born.. I am 41.. It was my Jungle Gym when I was growing up.. Plan to get an engine fixed up and running in it.. Then I can cruise around the Farm with it.. SOMEDAY I hope to find a complete body and have the Whole Thing..

Most of the later ones were diamond blocks, Many of the earlier ones I have seen just have the Gleaner serial number and which have a G prefix rather than an A prefix. Rod

Being a diamond block never meant much to me.The only one I ever used came out of a Bay City swing shovel,it had plain old valve seats,(no hardened seats) and weighed four pounds less than a standard A block I weighed along side of it.After they were weighed I took even more off,I had to take it out to .125.over to get a straight bore.That machine had an oil bath air filter,and it still got enough grit through to wear it out.That engine had no numbers stamped on the pad and the texture of the pad was the same as the rest of the block,never was ground off.That engine is in a 28 roadster pickup now,B head,B cam,cheapo JC Whitney two tube radiator,and never,ever overheats.
