Re: model A towncar
A fellow named Louis Malucci had a '29 TC in Rosemead, CA. for sale for $4500. (this was in 1966) Anyone know of this car, or what became of it?
(I was way overextended with my $200 coupe!) |

Re: model A towncar
There was an issue of the Restorer devoted to town cars back in the late 1960s. I don't think I still have my issue, but I might somewhere. One should be out there, but it may be out of date given ongoing scholarship.

Re: model A towncar
What was the last good guess to how many original town cars were left? Something like 15? How does that stack up to the taxi ? I don't expect to see it happen but would love to see one of each end up at the maffi museum.

This one was bought in the Southern California Area and now resides in the Pacific Northwest. My understanding is their are between 17-19 left.

Re: model A towncar
There is a private Musem that I have visited recently and they have one taxi and three town cars, one of which is completely unrestored and one of which is an original right hand drive car. Impressive to say the least!!!

Re: model A towncar
I'm sure the late Shelly Lake had a right hand drive at one of our All Model A Shows years ago. It was a dark maroon . or dark rose color. Tony I have a picture somewhere. I will search.

My wife works for Gen. William Lyon, the homebuilder, who also has a fabulous car collection...including 10 Dusenbergs, and many other wonderful classics. He also has a fair number of older Fords, including several Model A's, one of which is a Town Car that I believe he bought from the Harrah Collection back in the 1980's. Here are some pictures I took a while back:

Re: model A towncar
Fascinating theme on the Town Cars. Just to add to the confusion, here is an old article [late 1960's Restorer] of a TC that was converted into a Fordor! It was done to sell it off in 1930 & the Dealer must have lost money on it.
Initially, TC's were only available from Lincoln Dealers but later in 1929 Ford Dealers sometimes had to sell them when sales proved to be slow. The European market may have been a target for these also, where the wealthy would have appreciated a smaller, less showy formal car & manageable in confined inner European cities. Ford Canada also handled TC's & actually assembled two that went to Detroit!. They appear on Ford Canadas export sheets for 1929. |

Re: model A towncar
If I remember things correctly Bob Johnson's TC came from Denmark. Possibly the same car. I believe he brought it to the U.S. in 2004 or 2005. Rod
