Default Question Concerning Parts Longevity

Gentlemen: I recently purchased some parts from a fellow 'Barner who rebuilt them as spares a number of years ago. I, too, intend to use them as "highway emergency spares" but wonder: I would expect there to be no issues with the starter, but should I be concerned about the Tillotson? It has never been operational since rebuild - your thoughts and / or advice?

You could put power to the starter to see if it works. It might perform different on the car though. I would install the carb on the car and take it for a test drive. It is quite easy to remove and replace the carb.

If the Tilly hasn't been installed and filled with gasoline, just keep it clean and dry until you want to use it.

Tom Wesenberg will likely respond to your starter issue.

A restored starter should outlive any of us. The same for the generator. I would never carry a starter or generator as a spare.
I don't mind carrying a coil, points, and condenser as spare parts, but not much else unless you throw in a head gasket and fan belt. None of these parts weigh much, nor take up much room.

If your crank is still with the car forget the starter.

Thank you, Gentlemen: crank is still with the car; Tilly never installed; I have a '31 160B and '29 CCPU: plenty of room in each case. My questions are answered, my thanks rendered.

What breaks on a carburetor that requires a spare one to be carried! I likely have tour in excess of a hundred thousand miles in my lifetime, and have never had the need to change carbs out on the road. I don't even do this, but if someone was a worrywort, maybe carry a float in a box under the seat.
