Default Head Repair

Is there any repair that can be done when the head at the upper hose housing bolt has two cracks? For some reason I am not able to attach a photo?

I don't know if the head is thick enough for the method called stitching.

I’d expect there to be plenty of standard heads about. Maybe you would be better off to scrap the one you have and replace it.

I will know more once I get the head off and have it checked for other cracks.

Put the head on a BBQ grill until its good and hot, use cast iron rod and weld it. Leave it on the grill, slowly turning down the heat. Cast iron piston rings work well for welding rod. Check head surface for true afterward.

Hmmm...might be a good opportunity to switch to a high compression head.

Iron castings that are cracked at a spot 'open' to the edge can be brazed quite easily. Pre-heat a large area, braze and cool slowly. I have done this on the bottom head surface, and also on the block along the right water-jacket area, no problems but you'll probably need to re-surface the head, or at least check it for flatness.

Go to the test forum, https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=13 and practice posting. Usually the problem is that your picture is too large of a file. Cell phone pictures seem to post easily. Post what hardware (MAC?, PC?) and software (Photos?) you are using and someone will post the instructions to reduce the size of the photo. Do it now, you will need it again in the future.
