Re: What's it worth?
I'd agree with both of the above, but with one suggestion: Disassemble the axles and housings from the banjo, sell the housings and axles separately for more $$ or everything as a package. Let the buyers see what they are paying for and you won't take it back home.
banjo 250 with decent gears axles 25 ~150 ea depending on condition housings 25 ~ 75 the pair depending on condition But I haven't bought any for a bunch of years, so what do I know?

Re: What's it worth?
It's been about 15 years since I've bought one, but I paid $100 for two of them. They were both complete with brakes, torque tubes, and radius rods. They also had 3.78 rears.
I guess taking into consideration inflation and other old Ford part factors, $300 is reasonable if it's in great shape. Maybe ask $300 and take $250. They are a pain to lug around. If I was taking it to a swap, I'd want it to sell. |

Re: What's it worth?
I gave the last one I had away. Brakes and all. Too heavy for old guys to handle.

Re: What's it worth?
I sure remember when it was way out at the Pate Museum of Transportation, that was a fantastic swap meet, deals galore! But really bad when it rained, then you needed waders to get through the mud! What Awesome Memories of the Pate Swap Meet.

Buying a used original banjo rear that is supposed to be in good condition, can be a real disappointment when it is taken apart and everything has been completely checked out. I can't tell you haw many of these supposedly good rears I have bought in the past that have had bad axles, axle housings, gear sets, drive shafts, etc. In many cases it's a crapshoot and you may wind up with some good components, or you may not.

Re: What's it worth?
Since it's not a complete rear:
Be realistic and sell it for $150 so you won't have to lug it around or store it anymore. As stated above, buying one is a gamble. Put yourself in the buyer's shoes. What would you pay if you didn't know the history and it wasn't a complete rear? Last edited by 19Fordy; 04-27-2016 at 09:11 AM. |

Re: What's it worth?
I paid $100 fora 37 - 38 rear at Carlisle about 5 years ago. I swapped the 3:78 gears and one axle and saved the other axle.

Re: What's it worth?
This is the reason why I use late model rear ends. This restoration thing can be expensive for just a driver.

Re: What's it worth?
Not tryin' to be a wise-ass here, but you could use the same analogy when it comes to resurrecting a Chevy engine instead of a flathead. Just sayin', guys! DD
