Isky 1007B Track Numbers

Hello from England.
Some years ago Tom Hutchinson in Baldwin Park, East LA, provided me with an Isky 1007B "track" camshaft but I didn't get a cam card and I can't find a spec.
What are the numbers for that cam?

Check this thread out. My post #33, the last of that thread, has all three of the 1007s; 1007, 1007B and the 1007LD; listed as "track". You'll have to measure the lift to see which one you have.

That's great - thanks Glenn for the rapid reply.

Isky used to quote opening and closing angles at .020" and .050" lift.
Are those numbers available somewhere?

Tell us more about the "Batten Special", especially the engine being build for it now. The heads and intake system are like nothing I've ever seen.

There are flathead powered British specials coming out of the woodwork lately!

Tom Hutchinson! He was one of my flathead mentors when I was growing up in SoCal. He was a very knowledgeable guy and had lots of stuff that I drooled over. I bought my NOS SCoT blower setup from him - new in the box - for the "high price" of $400! (This was about 1977 or so). I always just fondled his Ardun stuff - a complete setup was over $2500 - way more than a teen-age kid like me ever had in his pocket.

Is the cam in the engine? If you have a head off the engine, you can get a degree wheel and figure out all the details.

Built in 1935 by Ted Batten it's one of the first British flathead specials, along with specials by Sydney Allard, Les Ballamy and the Jensen brothers. It was designed as a Brooklands circuit sports/racer.
Those special heads are high compression Federal Mogul copper "Thermo Flow" from 1936-ish, originally with aluminium cover plates which rapidly corroded, later replaced with cast iron covers. I have aluminium copies being machined. In 1938 Ted fitted it up with eight down-draft Amal motorcycle carburetters. It's that engine under re-creation which will be a 21-stud enlarged to 286 ci.
Whilst working in LA in the late 1980s Hemmings led me to Tom Hutchinson's Ford Speed Parts Specialties. Tom agreed to build an engine to my spec and estimated $3000. Would he be interested in an exchange deal for an Ardun set? He might. What value would he put on my Ardun set? Oh, about $3000. So the complete Ardun set was carried from England to LA in two suitcases and the deal was done.
That engine carried us to many wins in sprints and hill climbs in the UK but is now dismantled so the camshaft could be set up on V-blocks for measuring if some kind if cam follower/lifter can be devised.

Edit: managed to get it in my small lathe. The DTI reads .345" lift.

Lift .355”, adv duration 256*, duration @.050” 236*

Yes, it's a 1007B per my first post, confirmed by the lift.

So it looks like 17°-59°-59°-17° adv
and 7°-47°-47°-7° at .050"
Lobe centres both 111° and separation 111°.

But Glenn's data sheet shows 20°-55°-60°-15° at unspecified lift for the 1007B.

I've emailed Isky for the whole scoop.

That is at running clearance.
The rate of lift is .008 per degree squared. That info was never published.

Tom rebuilt the flathead in my Tonner in May 2006. During the build he took time to educate me about the flathead engine and shared some of the tricks he used when he rebuilt them. He said that the engine in the Tonner would be his last flathead rebuild. I apologize for hi jacking this thread, but wanted to give credit to Tom and his legacy as a builder of flathead engines.

No apology necessary - thanks for the photo of Tom. He was a good old lakester who kept trying to reach 200 mph. I don't know if he did - anyone got access to SCTA results data for Tom in 1980s?

The cam was fitted in a block and degreed with the DTI directly onto the lifter - no lash -
showing 22-59-63-18° @ .015" lift with max lift .370".
Looks like 1007LD ?

LDA 110.5°
Advance 2.1°
Dur @ .015" 261.5°
Dur @ .050" 235°
Overlap 40°

No, but that was an email message via his website, and oftentimes those are not monitored. But now I have my own figures.

I'm sure the .355 is correct, but my list is buried someplace in the computer and I can't find it. Nice cam, runs good, needs compression tho.
