1946 ford truck??????
Found a 46 ford truck today, guy said it ran 15 or so years ago. What are the odds the engine is good? Still has old antifreeze in radiator, 59AB engine, would it be worth the effort to get it out for a look see? He is not sure what he wants for it.

Re: 1946 ford truck??????
what size truck? big trucks often have been run to death, check what is left of the tailpipe/muffler for deposits. what dos the oil look like? drain some oil off the bottom of the engine, look for water, heavy sludge deposits, pull the plugs and look for soot, etc on them indicating hard oil consumption. good, rebuidable 59ab blocks bring $500 around here

I don't know what your level of expertise is. Maby get someone who knows these engines ell to check it over with you. Even then you are taking a risk. Don't pay more for it than you can afford to loose.

Re: 1946 ford truck??????
If it's a half ton pickup you might be ok in a rust free area of Texas. I just wrote two long paragraphs about restoration of these great old trucks, rust etc, but deleted them because it really boiled down to your level of experience and commitment. Have you been a part of the old car hobby, done restorations, have mechanical abilities? If you have to hire out the inevitable bugs, you would likely be far better off buying a running truck you can test drive and then tinker on as you go. And we love pictures if you can get one!
