Route 66 Preservation / Restoration & Education!! For a hobby and for charity (I do not charge for my time!)

I have one of the biggest websites in the world on Route 66 - and I spend EVERY DAY talking to people about Route 66 and helping them with travel, grants, education, how to grow their business / town and anything else I can to help promote the route.

Just love it!!

Me putting the 'UNION' lettering on the side of the gas station in Needles CA:

A newspaper article about us doing work at the Skyview Drive In - Litchfield IL:

Working on the fencing at the Skyview Drive In - Litchfield IL:

Painting the Refreshment Stand at the Skyview Drive In - Litchfield IL:

Doing an interview on KHPO Channel 5 News in Phoenix about Route 66:

Hanging a sign at the Boots Motel in Carthage MO:

Fully restoring the neon sign at the 66 Motel in Needles CA:

Me speaking at Ignite Phoenix in front of 900+ attendees about Route 66:

Working on a Phillips 66 gas station restoration in Tucumcari NM:

It truly is a passion of mine!! Want to know ANYTHING about Route 66 - just ask me!!!

I live about 40 miles from the start/end of route 66 in Santa Monica, CA. I hope one day to drive my Model A from Santa Monica to ??? on Route 66. When I was 12, my family drove from New York City to Los Angeles (home) in a VW mostly on Route 66. My son and I drove from Dallas, TX to Los Angeles about a year ago in a rental truck. Much of that trip was parallel to or on Route 66. Lots of interesting things to see on the highway.

Beside my Model A and wanting to drive it on Route 66, my other hobbies are gardening, photography, computers (I build my own) and sports (both watching and participating).

Poking around old mines. Last one was the Granite Silver Mine, in Granite, Montana. But I used to be a miner/guide at the Sterling Hill/ NJ Zinc mine inn Ogdensburg, NJ. "Play" machining of parts for the mod.A . I used to be a Toolmaker/Modelmaker. I can't hear the sound of a plane's engine without looking up. Used to be a pilot too. Now, I just spend too much time on the computer.

Collecting flashlights that were manufactured before or during the 4 years of Model A production. 178 and still finding some I don't have or in better condition than I have.
Eveready is by far the bulk of my collection.
Typical era Eveready (Photo from ebay)

I give a like new era correct flashight to members of my local Model A Club when they show their freshly restored car in fine point judging.

Good Day!

Number one hobby is getting up each morning. I enjoy FORD'S, wood working, wood turning (turned a mahogany steering wheel for my "T"), model trains (have vintage Lionel that is currently stored), growing Rose's (Currently 50+ bushes), collecting older movies and Amateur Radio. Hope to one day install a mobile in both my "T' and "A" and work the Route 66 amateur radio Special Event. Creating unfinished improvement project around the home.

CUSHMAN SCOOTERS I have been very lucky to have road, shown, built, sold, and traded over 350 bikes. I just finished a 1958 eagle last week. I am getting older and slowing down a lot. I have traded Cushmans for a restored 1953 F-100 a 1932 ford roadster and now I have six early fords. I also have vintage bikes Wizzer bikes mustang, Scat-kitty, Doodle bug, allstate moped plus others. Cushman have been very good to me my wife and I have got to travel around the U.S. and meet some very nice people. I still love Cushmans and old fords and read the ford barn ever day.

There are some great interests here!

Beyond my 1919 T and 1931 Town Sedan, I collect airline miles
- not on purpose - it happens because of my job.
It was over 130,000 miles for each of the last two years.

Other small collections are:
A few glass negatives of steam engines that were made by the Mason Machine Works in Taunton MA.
A WWII uniform that belonged to my wife's uncle.
A few sets of HO trains (engines, cars. buildings, etc.) that used to be part of a 6x8 foot layout that was not moved about 30 years ago.
A bunch of auto repair manuals (Chilton, Motors, Audi, Alfa Romeo, 1987 Buick , etc.) - that should find a new home -

I also spend some time making and repairing simple furniture.

My wife collects English china tea cups and helps with one of my hobbies.
She is a gourmet cook and I like to eat good food.
We also have a small wine collection - nothing fancy or expensive - just stuff we like and purchase in medium quantities.

Great to know what folks do. Lots of interesting folks here. I stay pretty busy, I do:
most anything with a motor interests me, Currently building my Speedster, Powered Paragliding, built that myself, Motorcycles, have owned many over the last 40 years, Woodworking, trying to get good enough to make some furniture, Fly Tying and Fishing, Precision Shooting, used to be on the State Rifle Team, Home Shop Machining. I built my Barn/workshop by hand. 24x36 traditional timber frame, and timber frame Porches (12x40') on my home. I want to build a Vertical Log Cabin for retirement in a few years.
