Default Left 1932 Engine Tin

Any one have a left engine tin I could get a picture of the Corner where it bolts to the frame (The corner with the Square Nut (Or Caged Nut) on it? I think it the corner closest to the firewall where it bolts to the frame. One that's off the car and photo of both sides please??? I have a tin that's missing that nut so I need to see what it is to repair it!!

Robert,

Regardless of your answer to the question I posed above, none of the '32 pans had a clinch or "D" nut in the rear-most attachment hole, right or left side. The only clinch nuts that were incorporated into the '32 pans, were on the V-8 versions and were directly below where the center hood bumper bracket attaches to the top of the front fenders passing through the frame and into the engine splash pan clinch nut (on the right side for LHD and on the left side for RHD). The threads were 1/4-28.

In other words, the rear-most attachment holes in all of the '32 engine pans were just holes where a separate 1/4-28 x 1/2 hex bolt, lock washer and loose square nut were used for attachment to the chassis frame.

Robert, I don't believe this pan had a "cage" nut at the rear most hole for the driver's side pan. As stated by Dave above, only the right-hand side had a cage nut attached to the pan. Pat

Maybe they left the washer off and it cracked around the square nut?

Dunno, that's why I asked and posted the above pictures, it sure appears that the square hole was originally there. Our 32 is not close at hand to look at ours so that's the reason for the post.

I think that Jim's theory is a good one as the original nuts were 1/2" square.

Both a mid-year and late pan are shown in the photos below. I've no photo handy of the early pan, but it is the same in that regard.

I know on the 4 cylinder pans, I have seen cracks around the bolt holes frequently. Mine came out in crescent shaped chunks

What's a fair price to pay for a nice pair of V8 pans.

If you find a nice, completely intact pair of '32 V8 engine splash pans for $400, that would be at the low end of the range of what they sell for (which is not often as they were often discarded whenever any service work was done on the exhaust system or starter motor).

I believe I paid around $800 for a nice pair of mid-year V8 pans at Hershey 4 or 5 years ago. Was glad to find them!

Pat,

Not at all unheard of; I'm still seeking a right side '33 V8 pan and expect no bargain when one turns up.
