Default Replacing Water Pump / Temp Probe Removal

Good morning! When I purchased my 35 Tudor, the previous owner had replaced the passenger side water pump. He did not, however, replace the driver side. I am in the process of doing that now. Is there a trick to removing the temperature probe in the water pump? I do not want to mess around and break the wire. Pic below for reference.

Soak it good with Rust Buster and try to gently wiggle it
and push with a screw diver from inside of the pump. G.M.

Well, I guess I am impatient and did not get the memo to gently wiggle it! Is it toast at this point, or do I have options?

Its toast. To have it redone by gauge rebuilder is about $175.Last NOS Ford one went for $330 on the auction site.

I was afraid of that. In the mean time, do I completely remove the gauge, or just coil up the wire and tie it up out of the way?

Get a plug for the port on the pump then coil it up until you find a replacement.Kind of a paint to just remove it thru the firewall with the wire loom in place so just do the job once.I suggest not buying the repops which are made in Argentina.Unless the figured it out the color fades over time.Send me a PM and I can let you know who fixed mine.

Are you committed to an "original" type gauge?

That is a capillary tube and not a wire. Those were an actual glass tube thermometer with a sealed bulb & capillary tube. The temp bulb can be replaced but condition of the whole assembly has to be pretty good to make it worth it. If the glass tube is cracked or there is damage to the capillary tube then it would be easier to look for another.
