40 Ford Spark retard
I read somewhere that if the spark retard is set wrong that it could heat up the engine. Is there any truth to this? I have the helmet distributor. Any advice will be appreciated.

Re: 40 Ford Spark retard
To answer your question---YES, improperly timed spark can produce undesirable performance problems, including excess heat entering the cooling system. For a more thorough explanation of how and why that happens, I suggest you read my book.

Re: 40 Ford Spark retard
Thanks for the info. I bought the dist. from Mac's. Hopefully everything in it is correct. Since I put it on the car has run hotter than when I had the old one on. I do think the vac plunger is not set correct. I will check the timing mark. I appreciate the info. I am not a mecanic. I am just trail and erroring my way through.

I personalty think Johns book is the best one ever written on the Flathead. If everybody had one there wouldn't be a need for these forums.
