Default Ordered my FSI

I finally got around to ordering an FSI distributor. Actually I told them I wanted everything new from the battery to the spark plugs, so I am getting the works. Hopefully when that is finished I can eliminate the ignition system as being a source of trouble.

I can't help but put a plug in here because the gentleman I talked to was a pleasure to deal with. Top notch company.

I will update when I get everything installed. If I can't find a good blow by blow of the installation I may do one as I go. It will either be a "how to," or a "what not to do."

I must admit it is modern technology. But. as soon as it is installed you are no longer driving a Model A like Henry built it. I have 6 Model A Fords with this set up in one of them. I will remove and sell on Swap Meet. I want a real Model A not a custom Model A. I hope you like yours but I did not like mine. I also sold the 16 inch rims and tires that turned my A into a non Model A. Wayne

Hoof, just curious, has your stock ignition system been a lot of trouble?

While I have worked on older cars, this is my first Model A. I have had intermittent drivability problems. I rebuilt the carb and feel that I removed that as the problem. The distributor wasn't even in the motor when I got the car, and I am not sure what I have. It seems like a mismatch of some modern parts and some original. Rather than start over with a stock distributor I don't mind the anachronism of the electronic distributor, especially since my car has an alternator already.

I respect strictly original restorations, but I am looking for "idiot proof."

You probably talked with Mel at FSI. He is very helpful. The one thing he stresses is to make certain the negative input to the distributor is an isolated wire connected directly to your battery. You will need to run a wire from the negative post on the battery to your key switch. Then you connect the the negative input to the distributor to the other side of the switch. I have 2 EI's and would never go back to a point ignition system. Once you set your timing that's it no more fooling with the points.

I saw that from the installation instructions and diagram I checked out online. My brother is really good at the electrical side of automotive repair, so I am going to be leaning on him for installation help.
I ordered an ignition switch from them as well so I have everything from one source that should work in concert.

FSI is a great company. We stopped in a few years ago and visited with them for an article. We've been running one of their units on the sedan since 2008 and have their set up on the roadster pickup as well.
