Black Head Gasket "Modern"
After 15 years, I have seem to have blown with my Copper clad FELPRO head gasket. (between #3 and 4 Cylinder) Engine gases now appear to be leaking into the Radiator water.
Will The "new" head gasket " Black" in color work with my Brumfield 5.9 to 1 High Compression head? This is the Head Gasket 0that the vendors are SAYing DOES not required gasket sealer?? Your reply would be appreciated!! Have a Great Model A Day! Hugh |

I do not use these!! Tried them on three occasions years ago all failed! Copper with copper spray is my preference, Some like some don't!

Vist Vince Falter's WEB site (fordgarage.com). Go to ENGINE section and read Larry Brumfield's Head Nut Tightening Instructions. It is a fairly long article or I would have posted it. In short, he says do not use any head gasket other than Felpro 7013 2,3,4.

Re: Black Head Gasket "Modern"
I like copper coated with silver paint. Copper Coat never dries, paint does and somewhat acts like glue to hold the gasket in place. The black gaskets are good but difficult to remove.

The other is the 'Premium' head gasket that the vendors are selling. I have had issues with the 'Premium' one. Snyder's states right in their catalog that the New/Premium will not work with a Brumfield head. |

Re: Black Head Gasket "Modern"
Ruth, I suspect Snyders state that about the Brumfield head because of the shape of the head not matching that gasket??? Not the materials themselves.

Re: Black Head Gasket "Modern"
The biggest issue that I know of with the black gasket that vendors are selling is the sealing problem. Unless your machine shop has a quality Surfacer that uses a CBN cutter, it cannot get the RA finish needed to get the head and block to seal against the gasket.
