Default removing throw out bearing lever on transmission

I am attempting to re-build a top loader transmission on my 50 Ford F1 pickup.

I need to remove the throw out lever off the shaft and I have not been able to. Need help, any suggestions? I have drilled a 1/4" hole attempting to drill out the pin but it will still not move. Need suggestions on "how to". could not drive the pin out, so I attempted to drill it out. What size is the pin?

Thanks

Isn't the pin tapered and peened over on the small end?

The pin IS NOT tapered. They'll usually come out with the use of a pneumatic hammer, and a little patience. DD

I did this a couple days ago. I cut the shaft with a zip wheel to get it out then put it in the vise and ground the end of the pin and was able to drive it out.

I take them apart frequently without drilling (I only drill them when they have been beat on with a small diameter punch). I grind the head and then use a 1/4" diameter flat ended punch so I don't swell the pin and a large ball peen, usually a couple of good wacks and it'll move, once it moves just keep going. A bit of Kroil or other good penetrating oil helps. Sometimes I have had to switch ends on the pin if it doesn't move, I'll grind the other end and usually succeed.

In AdamsFord40 case, I'd heat the pin and then soak for a day or so with Kroil. Also make sure you drilled dead center of the pin.

Good Luck, Paul

Thanks for your help. I drilled thru the pin and was able to drive it out. My first transmission re-build. My 50 Ford F1 had a stripped 1st gear. I took the gears out of a 51 side loader and put in the 50 top loader. With loose needle bearings in the 51 had to put in a dummy pin and drive it out with good pin. That's why I had to remove the clutch release shaft. Almost ready to put the transmission back in.

Been there, done that! The local True Value sells 3/4" aluminum tubing that I cut to length for the dummy shaft, it fit perfectly.
