In the forties are Mercury engine numbers separate from Ford engine numbers?

Re: Mercury engine numbers
There is really no difference in the engines at all after the war. It was only pre war engines that were 99A Mercury types with few Ford car exceptions and with many trucks. The numbers were only on the transmissions before the war but that didn't last very long after the war if at all. The 59 family covered all but the 6 cylinder models thru 1947 then only the cars for 1948. In 49 the 8CM 255 Merc came about but that was only for the one year left in the 40s.
