Default 50 Mercury Oil Fitting

I'm having a doozy of a time trying to find a fitting that broke on the Mercury. Pics below show what I'm looking for. The fitting is 1/8 pipe. It goes in to the oil filter tank big hole in middle is oil sending unit. Anyone know where I can get a replacement? Van Pelts didn't have it.

That is also the restrictor for the oilflow into the filter so any T fitting won´t work.
Any of the "younger" 8BA cars have it so should be some around...i have them but must be some on the right side of the ocean.

I believe you can make a restrictor. It limits the amount of oil flowing through the oil filter to 5% if I recall correctly. There was a thread a couple months back treating this subject with photos. Found it. Thead indicates 0.060" dia inlet restriction.

The 8CM-6073-A doesn't look at all like that. That looks like a weatherhead L fitting. The actual restrictor is a solid T and has rounded edges all around with the restrictor built in.

I've just been through this, putting a '51 Mercury engine into my '51 Ford. I was surprised that there was a significant difference with that fitting between the Ford and Mercury engines. The Mercury fitting was very "rounded", while the one on the Ford was square, like the one on the O/P's photo. I put the Ford filter assembly on the Mercury to avoid having to bend the lines (plus, it was in a lot better shape with 95% of the original decal intact). If I had to guess, the difference in fittings would be more related to plant location than make of car.

Tubman, is the restrictor built into the fitting? It doesn't look like it in the photos.

If I remember correctly the restrictor is in the part that is broken off.

The restrictor is in the fitting as Bob C says in the threaded part going into the canister.

"JSeery" - I believe both the "roundish" Mercury fitting and the "squarish" Ford fitting I used have the restrictor built in. Since they both came on running engines with good oil pressure I never really checked them. I can tell you that there are no other separate pieces in the filter setup.

I think "Bob C" is correct in that the restrictor is in the broken off part.

This is a '49-'51 Mercury 'T' fitting.
Seeing that your fitting has a 1/8 pipe end, I suspect that your setup is '52-'53 or from a Ford.

This car had good oil pressure, so I'm assuming whatever restrictor is needed was in place.

No. When I put the Ford cannister on my Mercury engine, it went right on using the Ford hardware. The various pieces from the respective engines are slightly different from each other and the lines won't fit without being bent. I would think the Ford fitting will be a lot easier to find than the one for the Merc. Also, the Mercury oil pressure switch mounts vertically while on the Ford, it mounts horizontally. When you reinstall the sender on the Ford, there is a large embossed "dot" on it that should be on the top when mounted. Mine has the word "UP" on it, but it's kinda hard to see.

I haven't looked for a while but flea-pay used to have a fair amount of the old filter canister assemblies for sale and they usually come with the fitting. I know you don't need the whole thing but if the price is not too bad, what the heck.
